Kinzang, our Bhutanese guide, prepares beetelnut with a bit of lime. The leaf is wrapped around the nut and placed in the mouth. Once chewed it makes a distinctive red paste and provides a mild effect. Many people in Bhutan chew beetelnut and exhibit the distinctive red stained teeth that mark a user.
