We rode a Royal Enfield 500cc Bullet. The Bullet 500 makes 22 horsepower / 16 kW, factory fresh, at sea level. Since this is a non-turbo motor, it loses power as you get higher in elevation. We were headed for some of the highest roads in the world two-up, with loaded pannier boxes and a tank bag. Things were bound to get interesting… This bike is a post-war design that has been manufactured and sold in India in its current form since 1955. The only thing that was changed from the oriignal and the bike we rode was the material used to braze one oil line. By the time of this trip, the company had introduced a disc brake model, but ours had the original drum brake. Siliguri, West Bengal, India
